Winter Wonderland Express

January 2nd - through Spring

(Saturdays Only)

Departs Saturdays, 9:00am from Alamosa and travels over the snowcapped mountain pass to the quaint town of La Veta. After an hour stop, the train returns at 5:45pm, to Alamosa.

See spectacular winter wonderlands from the warmth and comfort of our dome cars. Stay tucked inside as our engines carry you to view snowpacked mountain peaks contrasted with evergreen pines in remote valleys inaccessible by cars.
Delicious food will be available for purchase to enhance your on-board experience.

Make this the weekend you reconnect with your family. Spend the day enjoying quality time together on the train viewing winter landscapes, wildlife and historic rails. Kids are encouraged to participate in our Junior Engineer Program and learn about our cars, tracks, and engines.
Sunday leaves plenty of time to:

• Take the kids to ski Wolf Creek
• See the Great Sand Dunes National Park--walk to view dunes and see the Visitor's Center
• Go Tubing
• Pair up on snowmobiles
• Warm little toes in the Hot Springs

Arrive early to give yourself time to walk around the historic depot and Welcome Center. After the train departs you can explore the train consist, ask our conductor questions and learn the best areas to view winter wildlife or capture great photo opportunities. In the town of La Veta, the train stops for an hour giving you time to walk around and view the quaint main street.
Wake up early Sunday to get in a full day's fun:

• Ski Wolf Creek
• Go Cross Country Skiing
• Hike trails at the Great Sand Dunes National Park
• Try Tubing
• Enjoy Snowshoeing
• Explore on a snowmobile

Spend a leisurely day on the train enjoying snow-covered mountain passes and valleys--all from warm enclosed cars. Let us serve you from our selection of hot beverages, soups and sandwiches, all available onboard.
