2010 Roots and Boots in Rio Grande Scenic Railroad’s Summer Concert Series highlights Michael Martin Murphey with varied special musical guests and Fred Hargrove as Emcee.

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday beginning June 4th, 2010.

Take a pristine mountain setting, off the grid. Add a little barbecue and some great acoustic music. Fred Hargrove will be the Emcee this year as well. Snake your way up through the foothills and canyons on the train, the only way to get there, no cars. What do you have? Fir, Colorado, at the top of La Veta Pass, and site of the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad’s Roots and Boots Summer Music Festival.

There is NO stage anywhere in the world to rival all that you have assembled for the enjoyment of your concert-goers. While we might ride the train or we might attend a concert, it is truly the combination of the two in the West which is the genius of the Roots & Boots Concert Series! BRAVO!

Sure, you can go to a concert in a lot of places. And there are nice train rides all over Colorado. But there’s only one place where you can experience a thrilling train ride coupled with some of the best acoustic music you’ll ever hear, in a natural mountain amphitheater.

open_air_car_web.jpg

And, the music goes all summer (as does the train and the barbecue). Beginning June 4 and continuing through August 22, there is music at Fir every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It’s a whole day of entertainment, starting with a great train ride from either Alamosa or La Veta, up to the Fir Amphitheater. Ride in one of our comfortable coaches and visit the open air car. Or upgrade to one of our spectacular full length dome cars. Either way, you’ll have great views around every curve.

When you arrive at Fir, you’ll have time to visit the barbecue stand, or spread out a blanket with your own picnic lunch. This year, in addition to soft drinks and water, adult beverages will be available as well. The music starts at noon. Bring a lawn chair or use one of our natural wood benches, but get comfortable because we have three hours of music for you!

And, this year’s music lineup is expanded from last year. Featuring Michael Martin Murphey, with music from his Grammy-nominated Buckaroo Bluegrass CD in July, the Summer Music Festival will include folk, bluegrass, country, western and Spanish artists from across the nation. Check out the schedules below, and join us at Fir for the best concert experience in the West!
